Be like Brave: Deploy algorithmic answers responsibly

Google Search’s AI infamously just botched this query, so I thought I’d compare it to Brave Search’s independent search engine companion “Summarizer”.

Turns out you get more of a mixed bag of answers. It’s confusing, but at least it’s not definitively wrong.

But the real winner for Brave Search is context.

The attribution links it provides let you see where the answer came from, and judge the trustworthiness of the source sites for yourself.

To be clear, I remain unconvinced that people should trust the accuracy of any overly confident algorithm at this time. But Brave is at least trying out these search answers responsibly, leaving more agency and clarity in the hands of human users (and with excellent privacy built-in, too).

For a past client project, I helped temper the overly confident UX copywriting to be more suggestive than definitive, and it led to lots of user trust and adoption. Holler at me to learn more about that UX case study.
